| Building PermitsLyndon Township, along with Sylvan, Dexter, Lima, and Sharon Townships and the City of Chelsea participate in the Chelsea Area Construction Agency . All building permits (construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and soil erosion) are issued through this agency, rather than Washtenaw County. Building Permits are required for all building regardless of use and number of acres owned. This includes such home improvements as plumbing, electrical, mechanical (heating and air conditioning), decks, swimming pools, siding, roofing, replacement windows and out buildings. This agency will also perform required inspections of the work. The Chelsea Area Construction Agency is in the basement of the New Sylvan Town Hall on Old U.S. 12 at I-94. Prior to obtaining a Building Permit, you must first obtain a Zoning Permit from the Lyndon Township Hall for all work with the exception of jobs that are only electrical, plumbing and/or mechanical. Failure to obtain a permit may result in penalties and possible rework of the job. Zoning PermitsZoning permits are required for all building, regardless of use and number of acres owned. This includes such home improvements as siding, roofing, replacement windows, decks, swimming pools, storage sheds and out buildings. Permits may be obtained from the Ordinance Officer. You will need to take your Zoning Permit to the Chelsea Area Construction Agency to obtain a Building Permit before the work can begin. If you live on a non-approved private road, a Private Road Ordinance Variance is required prior to your obtaining a Zoning Permit. Applications are available in the Lyndon Township office. Failure to obtain a zoning permit can result in a $100 after-the-fact permit fee and work stoppage. Burning Permit:If you plan to have an open fire, please call the Chelsea Area Fire Authority at (734)475-1339 to obtain a permit. You can also read more about burning regulations. PLEASE NOTE THAT EVEN IF THERE IS A BURN PERMIT AND A FIRE GETS OUT OF CONTROL, THE HOMEOWNER WILL BE CHARGED FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT SERVICES.
